DIY Shoe Bling!

What girl doesn't love shoes, right? So I was thrilled when I came across this DIY shoe project over  Honestly WTF.

Why spend hundreds of dollars to get these from Miu Miu...

When you can spend much less and get these!

The folks over at Honestly WTF used Vans for this DIY project but I think I would use a pair that were a little more inexpensive as a practice test first... just in case!

Here is what you need:

  • a pair of white canvas shoes
  • 8 ounces of Mod Podge
  • 1.5 ounces of coarse gold glitter
  • 1 small and 1 medium flat brush
  • assorted rhinestones in settings
  • heavy duty adhesive
  • small plastic tray
  • tape

  • And tadaaa!!!

Wear them with or without the laces!

For comprehensive directions visit Honestly WTF here

    Have fun!

    Plan Your Weekly Wardrobe

    Monday Blues Beater

    It's Monday...
Are you wondering what you have to look forward to besides sitting in your cubicle for the next 5 days?

Well, how about dropping by What I Wore Today and getting hints on how to plan and spice up your wardrobe for this week!

What I Wore Today is a fun, fashion-inspiring photoblog chronicling what Kasmira wears to work during the week and out for a good time on the weekends. She has such a great sense of style and she literally seems to never wear the same thing twice.
Her secret: The ability to mix and match to appear to never wear the same OUTFIT twice!

Kasmira also has really great tips on how you too can look fabulous such as: how to Add More Colour to Your Wardrobe, how to Layer for Fashion, how to Mix Black and Brown, how to Wear Yellow Shoes, and much, much more!
Also, don't miss her Theme Week posts, or her Shoe Collection, Most Worn Items, and her Closet posts! I could go on and on but you should just check it out for yourself here :)

You truly could spend hours on her blog (and I have!) perusing her posts full of inspirational outfit ideas and borrowing them for your own wardrobe.

As I love brooches and have recently started collecting them, here are some of Kasmira's tips on how to creatively wear them.

Use a brooch to cinch a jacket for a more fitted look.

Use a brooch to secure a wrap shirt that to ensure only the right amount of cleavage is showing. (Much cuter than the safety pin I usually use!)

Add a brooch to a scarf to secure the "draped look" and to add a little more pizzaz

Use a brooch to close a jacket or sweater. (I just LOVE her brocade jacket in the first pic!)

Use a brooch as an extra embellishment on a vest.

Clasp a belt with a brooch.

Spice up a denim jacket (or any jacket/shirt) with brooch

Add a brooch to the neck of a turtleneck sweater.

A couple of other ideas I like that are not shown by What I Wore Today are to add brooches to shoes and bags as seen below.

I hope you will be inspired by What I Wore Today as much as I have been!

What is your favourite outfit of Kasmira's? Do you have any fashion tips about how to make us all look even more fabulous this Fall?

Perusing Karen Olivia's blog is a full out "designer-studded" event saturated with beautiful photos with colour, style, and texture for all tastes. And it's not only a great resource for home decor inspiration but she also links to other fabulous blogs to do with art, fashion, books, and event planning (to name just a few).

In keeping with my "Ode to Stripes" post earlier today, here are some photos Karen posted here of designer David Carter's 40 Winks boutique hotel in London.

One of the guest rooms at 40 Winks

We also share a great love for the colour purple! Below are some examples of GORGEOUS contemporary, eclectic, and glamourous purple rooms that can be found here at Alkemie.

The bold printed carpet looks spectacular with the dark purple walls. The yellow
definitely adds a lot of punch as well.

    Lovely accessories.

LOVE this! The purple walls and natural linens are a gorgeous combination.

    So pretty

Purple is the colour of royalty - would you not feel like a Queen sleeping in
    this room?!

    LOVE IT!

In love with that headboard! It's a room for a princess :)

    Many shades of purple...

I think I've died and gone to Purple Heaven!!!

A Soft Place to Land is an excellent blog to peruse many hours worth of Do-It-Yourself projects that have been successfully completed by other bloggers.

So whether you are the crafty type looking for ideas, the wannabe creative type looking for inspiration, or the creatively challenged type looking to be awed by the talent of others, then browse here and click on the hundreds of links that will direct you to every kind of DIY-related project you can think of - fashion, jewelry, home decor, furniture makeover, recipes, artwork, junk repurposing, etc

Hint: To view the hundreds of DIY projects, click on the archives list near the bottom right side of the page, then click on any of the "DIY Days" links, and scroll down to see the list of all the projects for each week.
Be sure to check out the rest of the blog as well, as it has some other darling posts too :)

Below are a few great examples of DIYs that were found linked from A Soft Place to Land:

Painted pumpkins via Olive Rue taken from DIY projects in Country Living.

    Re-Fashioned T-Shirt Via Artistic Blend

Television Disguise via A Penny Saved (I love this idea! TVs are just so ugly...)

Decoupaged side table via Mod Podge Rocks

Scrabble Labels via Junk Mammas (So simple and so cute!)

Pretty t-shirt makeover via Little Loveables. (I can't wait to try this! I love it! And, again, very simple)

Repurposed typewriter table via It's So Very Cheri from Joy Beadworks.
(Fabulous! I think this would be even more great if chess pieces were used instead of checkers)

From cocktail napkin to coasters via que sara sara. (I have never decoupaged
anything before but it looks like so much fun and there's so much you can DO with it!)

I hope this has been as inspiring for you as it has for me!

    Happy perusing!

    Everything Vintage: The Vintage Moth

    Vintage Fridays!

Friday is probably my favourite weekday (and not just for the obvious don't-have-to-work-tomorrow reason), but because it's Vintage Fridays! I get to scour the net and the the blogosphere to find incredible vintage photos, jewelry, and other vintage-esque items.

Look at these beautiful vintage paper doll cut-outs.
    Aren't they a treat?!

I just love the simplistic glamour of the 1920's (although, I'm
not quite sure what era the below outfit comes out of)

Going forward I will be featuring a blog related to each themed day of the week. This Vintage Friday's blog feature is The Vintage Moth. On her blog Abbie posts FREE antique/vintage clip art that other bloggers and mixed media/collage artists can use in their pieces. (The copyright on each image has expired)

Here are some of my favourites from Abbie's blog...

Vintage ads and posters can add great character to a room when
    framed and hung as artwork.

I'm always so intrigued by old photographs. They have such a nastalgic
and sometimes eerie aura about them. I like to think about what
they're lives would've been like during such a different era. I imagine
secret diaries hidden in loose floorboards that contain long lost secrets
    and scandals...
It's actually surprising one of the girls in the first photo is smiling - it's not really
something you would see often in pictures of that time period. She must
have been the rascal in the family :)

These images are obviously from old fairytale books. So full of
whimsy and beauty. Would also look great framed.
Be sure to drop by and visit this charming blog devoted to vintage art here.

    Happy Vintage Friday!
